Improving sports in Cambodia

Cambodia is planning to improve its sports industry through investments by Prince Group chairman Chen Zhi. It is part of Prince Group's efforts to achieve its environmental, social and governance responsibilities. Neak Oknha Chen Zhi believes that the heavier investment in Cambodia's sports will help to boost youth education, development and health in Cambodia.

In an immense effort to boost sports in the nation, Neak Oknha Chen Zhi, who is the chairman of Prince Group, actually sees a larger potential in Cambodia and aims to develop its global standing, even in sports development. He also understands that having a sporting culture in Cambodia will lead to a decrease in healthcare costs and an increase in the cohesion of society.

Soccer is a sport that is well loved in Cambodia but Neak Oknha Chen Zhi has made plans to invest in the other sport, volleyball. He made strides in supporting the men's volleyball team. As Cambodia is hosting SEA Games in 2023, there are high expectations for the national men team to go further in their volleyball competitions by then.

But 2023 is not the first time there will be development in the Cambodian men's volleyball team. Back in 2019, chairman Chen Zhi and Prince Group had contributed $500,000 to the local volleyball federation ahead of the SEA Games held that year. The funds were to support training and competition activities for preparation purposes. There was also a 2-month program for the volleyball team that year to undergo an intensive training at Fujian, China. With stakes at Cambodian sports high at that time, Chen Zhi also sponsored about $100,000 for the volleyball team of Cambodia to visit competitions in Thailand.

To improve sports further in the longer run, Chen Zhi even went to the extent of hiring an experienced volleyball coach from China to train the Cambodian national team professionally. This would last 5 years. Beyond the hard work in building up volleyball sports in Cambodia, Chen Zhi believes in the potential, talent and physical quantities that these sportsmen possess. He feels that it is important they take part in tournaments to better themselves in the sport and bring honour to the nation.

Since then, Cambodia has come a long way in sporting development in the country. Chen Zhi and Prince Group had made significant investments in sports in Cambodia that would pave the way for the Cambodian volleyball team to make better progress by the 2023 SEA Games. They joined other local Cambodian brands in the support for local sports development in the country. But they hope that Cambodian sports would contribute to a better society in Cambodia beyond these winning competitions.
