Cambodian sports scene

Updated: May 21, 2021

Chen Zhi Prince Group has pledged to invest in Cambodia's sports industry. It's part of the Prince Group's effort to meet its environmental, social, and governance goals. Chen Zhi believes that increased investment in Cambodian sports would contribute to the country's youth education, growth, and health.

In an effort to boost sports in Cambodia, Neak Oknha Chen Zhi, the chairman of Prince Group, sees a greater potential in the country and wants to improve its global status, including in sports growth. He also recognises that having a sports culture in Cambodia would result in lower healthcare costs and greater social stability. Volleyball was the main focus of Chen Zhi's sporting contribution efforts in Cambodia.

Chairman Chen Zhi and Prince Group donated $500,000 to the local volleyball federation in 2019 ahead of the Southeast Asian Games. The funds were intended to help with training and competition planning. The volleyball team also participated in a two-month intensive training programme in Fujian, China that year. With the stakes in Cambodian sports being so high at the time, Chen Zhi also sponsored a volleyball team from Cambodia to compete in Thailand for around $100,000.

In order to develop sports in the long run, Chen Zhi went so far as to hire a professional volleyball coach from China to train the Cambodian national team. This will be good for 5 years. Chen Zhi believes in the potential, ability, and physical quantities that these athletes possess, in addition to their hard work in developing volleyball sports in Cambodia. He believes it is critical that they compete in tournaments in order to improve their sport and bring honour to the nation.

Cambodia has come a long way in terms of sports growth since then. Chen Zhi and the Prince Group had made substantial investments in Cambodian sports, paving the way for the Cambodian volleyball team to improve their performance by the SEA Games in 2023. They joined other local Cambodian brands in supporting the country's sports growth. However, they hope that Cambodian sports, in addition to winning tournaments, will lead to a better society in Cambodia.
